"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Matt, frankly I've had way too many date-ish situations where slipping away harmlessly would definitely be the option I'd want. I've never bailed out hurtfully.

I think I must be growing bitter and cynical in my old age then. I mean, I've not ended a date in a way that was deliberately hurtful or insulting (not even the one with the creepy redneck guy that asked me mid-meal when we were going to get on with the hot sex), but if it's so unpleasant that I can't make chitchat for a couple hours, I'm cool with saying "This just doesn't feel like it's going to work out, so I'll wish you a good night."

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

if it's so unpleasant that I can't make chitchat for a couple hours

The "dates" that come first to mind are the ones where a couple hours of chitchat is akin to wearing his ring, or something. So cutting it off early and trying to vanish is my cowardly action of choice.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

You can indicate that losing salary, etc., would create a hardship preventing you from serving. Not that it will always work.

"You see? THAT's what they want. Love, and a bit with a dog."

My company paid for all my jury duty- I only had to be there for two days out of all the time I was on call, but I don't think they set a time limit in policy.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Damn. So the rumors were true.

I ended up getting dinner in Evanston, so I didn't try to leave Evanston until after 6:00. (I think it was shortly after 6:00 when the trains started running again.) It probably took me an extra 20 minutes to get home.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

At least you weren't already on a train when it happened.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Oh yeah, when the train got to the Loyola stop, I was looking around to see if anything was amiss. I didn't notice anything, but a woman of college age got on the train and she looked pretty upset.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

OC: Shut up Ryan, too. I am so freaking over this Ryan-Lindsay-Caleb thing.

But Julie's back!

ETA: Also so so tired of this Sandy shit.

What am I not tired of on this show right now? How the hell did things get to this place?

Yeah, I'm afraid I'm with you, Brenda.
