I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

"At first I thought ultimate robot fighting was real, like professional wrestling. But now I know its fixed, like boxing."

t /Futurama

Sadly, that is all I have to contribute to this discussion. Except that I have never bitten an ear in anger.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I think any prospective mob bosses should hire Jeremy Shockey. And make sure he's very visible in predictable locations should they get in a turf war with other mobsters.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Except that I have never bitten an ear in anger.

Whenever my mouth has been that close to someone else's ear, I've been.....usually not angry. Although there was that one time...but that wasn't his ear.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Doesn't the sleeziness in boxing speak more to the promotors, trainers, money men, etc., than the fighters?

Absolutely.

Anybody else just have a retracting sensation? Just me?

Ann, that's a ferret.

Well, I think that may have a lot to do with baseball being a non-contact sport (ostensibly).

That's very possible. The catch with boxing/fighting is that the whole point of the sport is to knock your opponent senseless. Unlike other sports where violence is (at least in theory) incidental to some other goal.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Unlike other sports where violence is (at least in theory) incidental to some other goal.

You've been reading old press from the NHL, haven't you?

(X-post in Bitches) From the NY trial courts:

Two days after George W. Bush renewed his call for a federal constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, a court in New York has just ruled that gay men and lesbians in that state must be granted the right to marry.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

In non-boxing news, NY rules for gay marriage.

The boxers I know -- admittedly, mostly amateurs -- are all fine folk. (It's the promoters who are sleaze.) (And Tyson. But that's a Tyson issue.)
