Sure I went over to the Dark Side, but just to pick up a few things.

Can't they tell?

Nope. They're having too much fun listening to themselves clap. Either that or they're not paying attention.

My gripe is when people clap along to something and they start speeding up.

There are researches in synchronizaton which show that if a crowd of people claps (like, at the end of a play or a lecture, not to a tune (and, yes, I know it's not the subject, but I'm one of the people who can't follow a tune at all, so I try to post about something else)), even if very few people clap at a slower rhythm, the whole group will adapt to that, eventually.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

There must be a way to use this knowledge to, I don't know... take over the world or something.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Wait -- so the rhythm is gonna get you?

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I am a fabulous dancer, white as milk, got great rhythm, AND I got back.

That's all I got to say on that subject.

No, only the math of it. With equations and the like.

I was charmed (albeit somewhat perplexed) by the fannish sensibility of many of the music choices -- it's like the director was trying to vid Canada. --loligo on the Olympic Opening Ceremonies

I don't claim to be a good dancer, at least not with anything spontaneous--I do OK when there are steps to follow--but rhythm I have. And don't understand the lack of it. I mean, the beat is right there, being the beat. How do people not hear it?

I wonder this too. And yet obviously they don't.

Of course, I spent a good twelve years playing the viola, which means I was playing offbeats half of the time. When I did a capella in grad school my voice wasn't the best, but damn if I couldn't pick up rhythms quickly.
