Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Bon, as long as Alannis is still wrong, I'm okay. He did make my head hurt, and he dissed Merriam Webster. Or does m-w.com have different content from the printed version? Is Merriam Webster a decent dictionary?

"I'm useless alone." // "We're all useless alone. It's a good thing you're not alone."

Wait, that's not irony. Is it?

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

Is Allyson around? I have questions and would like to for her to answer if possible.

"Ironically", Merriam Webster agrees with him. It lists both what I considered irony, and his "use of words to express something other than their literal meaning."

If I want to become a cloud of bats, does each bat need a separate vaccination?

Based on his last paragraph:

Trying to pretend to yourself and others that a blurb from a random jackass which claims to be an authority on the web (yes, m-w.com are random jackasses) is nothing but a way to delude one's self and to confuse or annoy others.

I conclude that this guy is just some random jackass on the web and I can safely ignore him and his bad grammar.

Yeah, I checked too. And me too. So we're good, since I don't consider m-w.com to be random jackasses.

And watch, he's going to follow his referrer logs back here and we can all have a nice argument about it.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

Wait, that's not irony. Is it?

Exactly! I thought most of the examples he cited as definitively not ironic to be excellent examples of what I understood to be irony-- to wit, a type of particularly perverse result. His definition appears to be "sarcasm."

It is ironic that his entirely sarcastic post mistakes sarcasm for irony, maybe.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

It is ironic that his entirely sarcastic post mistakes sarcasm for irony, maybe.

Are you being sarcastic?

No, I'm not being sarcastic. Why ever would you think I'm being sarcastic?

Also he thinks linguistic change takes hundreds of years.
