Right, because you couldn't be a true fan had you ever seen even a part of a promo for any thing else that Joss had ever done before.
That weird reverse snobbery that some browncoats have really bugs me. Oh, You can't be a real Firefly fan if you were a Buffy fan before. What's the mandarin for "Bite me, snapperhead"?
I think, in fairness, a lot of the browncoats who didn't like Buffy disappeared from the fandom when OMG!WASH. And I would say I'm being snarky here, but actually I'm just tired and cranky - which is far more sexy.
I came late to Buffy (I saw the movie and was not predisposed to like the show), but fell hard when I did. I watched Angel because of Buffy, and loved it too. I liked the characters better on Buffy, but I liked the stories of early Angel better.
I watched Firefly because of Buffy and Angel, and love it best of all. It had my favorite characters AND my favorite stories. There are other good shows, but Firefly remains my One True Show. But I guess I don't count. Who knew.
libkitty, I count you. As like, a nice sane person. (Well, I think/hope).
So, what you're saying is that by the time Wash died, people who had been Buffy or Angel had been hardened by the deaths of Jenny Calendar, Joyce, Tara, Buffy (several times), Doyle, Fred, Wes, etc so we just weren't bothered by it?
actually I'm just tired and cranky - which is far more sexy.
Yeah! I must be soooooo sexy right now!
As like, a nice sane person. (Well, I think/hope).
You may be a bit optimistic, but I try. Thanks!
Libkitty is me.
Best compliment evah!
And now, I must, you know, work. Meh.
So, what you're saying is that by the time Wash died, people who had been Buffy or Angel had been hardened by the deaths of Jenny Calendar, Joyce, Tara, Buffy (several times), Doyle, Fred, Wes, etc so we just weren't bothered by it?
Nope... I'm saying people who saw the deaths of Jenny, Joyce (etc) probably weren't _as_ surprised that it happened. Of course, it caught a lot of people off guard (I was there at one of the first with fans screenings, before the spoilers were generally known... and wanted to hide afterwards. And I did go and hide in the bogs as the credits rolled).
Anyway, I'm not trying to be pissy about that at all - just one of the things I geninuely saw after people had seen the film was differing reactions. Some were not familiar with Buffy/Angel/etc at all, and some of those people were pissed. Some hadn't seen it, and didn't mind as much. Some had seen Buffy/Angel/etc and were pissed. Some thought it didn't work, some were just destroyed.
