my Serenity dvd was mailed at the same time but "tracking is not available" for it. This worries me.
That just means that the DVD is avoiding Alliance-controlled space on its way to you.

Discussion of the Mutant Enemy series, Firefly, the ensuing movie Serenity, and other projects in that universe. Like the other show threads, anything broadcast in the US is fine; spoilers are verboten and will be deleted if found.

They can make more money with two versions.
Cynical, not?
I used to work for a company that released cheapie DVDs. There were separate fullscreen and widescreen versions of short movies (about 80-90 minutes or under) contained on a single side, or separate versions of some longer movies on each side of a double sided disc. When there was only one version it was usually fullscreen.
Single sided discs had such desirable "extras" as menus and chapters. Maybe even a trailer. Double-sided discs had room for more extras, but , did I mention, cheapie? And of course double-sided discs had no label art.
Publishing separate editions makes a great deal of sense: most buyers only want one, and printing/pressing is likely in-house (or under the same ownership and billed accordingly--what? you lost money on Serenity??? you wouldn't believe what those darn printers charged, and the pressing plant? don't ask me about pressing costs.). And two editions usually get more retail space than one.
Easter Egg instructions (found at lj):
On the main menu of the disc, while highlighting PLAY, press LEFT on your DVD remote. It will highlight an icon on the right side of the screen (yes, it'll be on the right) that looks like a trapezoid with a circle in it. Select it, and enjoy the Easter Egg.
I just saw an ad on MTV for a video game called The Movies. Quote: "This western is being filmed in space" (or words to that effect). It included horsies too.
Where there space whores?

You need to enter the code to get them: left, left, left, A, A, B, up.
My Farscape starbursts have been very, very unreliable; in fact, I need to return one right now.
In one of the Serenity DVD commentaries, Joss says "expositionizing". Hee.

So far out of 6 double-sided Farscape Starburst editions, I had to exchange 4 of them.
I just received the Starburst for Season 3, edition 1, and yes, it is single-sided. No, it isn't any more expensive. I had to get it from Amazon though, because apparently Deep Discount DVD isn't carrying Farscape any longer. I'm wondering if they got tired of dealing with all the returns and exchanges. Anyway, I'm only up to the second episode ("Suns and Lovers") and so far, no sticking or skipping. The only difference I see so far is that this version doesn't have the "Farscape Chronicles" snippets for every episode. It does appear to have the original TV commercials (I'd rather have the Chronicles). And the center of the disc is pretty now.
Hey, how about that Serenity? Picked up the DVD today, but didn't have a chance to watch it again yet.

I haven't had any problems with mine so far, knock wood. And I'm happy to finally be on the Farscape train, woo woo. I'm loving it. I got the 2nd season from Newbury Comics when I couldn't find them at Deep Discount. They were only a dollar or so more. And I felt like I was supporting a local business even if it's no longer local to me.
