And I still don't have my friend's present. Mixed emotions, to say the least.
Yes, but even as a belated present, you've got a winner, don't you?

Joss posted today in the Whedonesque thread about the Serenity prequel graphic novel. It will be a three-issue mini-series, written by Joss and Brett Matthews, drawn by a guy I don't know but the art looks wonderful. The first one comes out in July, for my birthday.
Joss sez:
Hey, It's me -- or an incredible simulation! Still recovering from that intense Wondercon experience I had in the near future. And that fun announcement about the Serenity comic that I made... if you're a comic book geek such as my own self, you were SO psyched. If you're not, you dozed off. But I definitely have something up my sleeve... it's an arm! a hideous arm! Get it off me!
Drugs. The boy is on serious, bigtime drugs.
Where can I get some of those drugs?

I thought you were on drugs. Just not the fun ones.
Hey Gus! What you been up to?
I've been a busy, busy boy, David.
Doing boring, boring stuff.
It takes time, boring stuff.
However, it allows you funds to buy interesting drugs.
If you can find any.

Yeah, I get that. In Matt Groening's all too apt description of work: "They made me do stuff I didn't particularly want to do."
JZ and I went dancing last weekend to a club that only played mashups. I thought it would feel super 21st century and cyberpunk cool. It was actually more like a frat party with lots oldies. But cooler because they were mashed together in interesting ways. On the plus side - there were more ridiculously beautiful women there than I think I've ever seen at a San Francisco club.
One woman had an anime body - tiny rib cage, big rack. And she was pretty too. Also, they had boy and girl go-go dancers, which is always fun. However, it would've been more fun if they danced in cages suspended over the dance floor, which is the natural habitat for the go-go dancer.

Did she have huge eyes? If not, then she was evil.

Not anime huge. They weren't bigger than say, a clementine. She may well have been evil, but that was overshadowed by the go-go girl wearing giant red sequined platform boots and red glitter eye makeup. She just looked more evil.
Gawd, this sucks. DavidS is all married and domestic and stuff and is still having experiences that William Gibson could turn into a bestselling slap in Bruce Sterling's face.
Meanwhile, I do the boring stuff.

Yes, well, most of the credit goes to San Francisco itself which tends to foment this kind of thing.

Uh, like the kind of science that Wm. Gibson and B. Sterling will be writing about next year? Like creating an actual drug replicator?
