Speaking as a Bay Area native: I love our movie palaces.
Firefly 4: Also, we can kill you with our brains
Discussion of the Mutant Enemy series, Firefly, the ensuing movie Serenity, and other projects in that universe. Like the other show threads, anything broadcast in the US is fine; spoilers are verboten and will be deleted if found.
Two pieces of Serenity news.
The title bar of www.serenitymovie.com now reads:
"Serenity DVD | Serenity movie - firefly serenity movie"
No DVD or purchase links on the site yet, though.
dvdanswers.com has official artwork from the DVD: [link]

Nothing at Universal Studios Home Entertainment [link] yet.
Don't much like the artwork. It's nice to be able to see the actors better, but what's with the flames (or whatever) between Mal and Zoe?
Also, I'll still buy this, but I was hoping for a price closer to $20. I had planned to buy this for presents. Now, perhaps not.
I don't want to say that marketing, etc., is bad, because I really know not of what I speak. Still, I wish it were better, because it seems like maybe they don't either.
Speaking as a Bay Area native: I love our movie palaces.
Well, neither the Parkway nor the Red Vic could conceivably be described as palatial, but they are very cozy. The Parkway lets you order beer and a pizza and slounge on a couch (if you get there early enough) while watching your movie, and the Red Vic pops popcorn from scratch for every show and covers it with actual butter like God intended. Also, the Red Vic had couches way before the Parkway.
We have some splendid palaces, too, of course.
The cover art makes it look like a cheesy B flick. I'm surprised it's going to be nearly $30. But I'm buying it anyway, of course.
See, that's the thing. The marketing all seems to be for cheesy B flick, not for a good movie. Even when there were wonderful reviews from respected reviewers, they chose quotes from folks I've never heard of for their flyers (for fans to distribute). They had a beautiful Serenity logo, then used the blue poster for everything. Bah.
The marketing all seems to be for cheesy B flick, not for a good movie.
A lot of the reviews took this slant too. Even some of the positive ones called it a cheesy B flick. Of course, the original reviews for Star Wars were like that as well.
30 bucks is insane. Even corporadisney streets their DVDs in the $20 range. Also 15 hours of firefly at $35 doesn't really make $30 for 2 hours seem very fair.
Firefly has a suggested retail of what? $50 $60? It regularly sells for $29 to $35. Serenity will have the same type of discounts. Look for it to be less than $20 at Amazon and probably less than that at Wal-Mart.
$30 is MSRP. It'll be at most $20 street. Firefly's MSRP is $50.
