Discussion of the Mutant Enemy series, Firefly, the ensuing movie Serenity, and other projects in that universe. Like the other show threads, anything broadcast in the US is fine; spoilers are verboten and will be deleted if found.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

I still don't get why some reviews accuse the CGI of being a bit shoddy/amateurish. They look fine to me. I'm wondering if they're mistaking the deliberate hand-held camera effect thing with cheapness?

The effects on the scene when the Reivers are chasing them on the mule are pretty bad. Other than that nothing pinged me.

Will be seeing the movie again in about an hour with a friend who didn't see the whole series on TV but is a JW fan. Be interesting to see what he thinks. More importantly, I get to see Laura and family again, yay! I wonder whether she's spoiled? Probably not. Well, I certainly won't spoil any of them, but suddenly I understand the sentiment a few people have expressed about feeling a little bad for not being able to cushion the blow.

I thought the close formation of all those spaceships in the respective armadas was very questionable, though I suppose it was done for dramatic visual effect.

At those distances, I'd expect proximity alarms were blaring on every single ship on either side. In space, that close together is practically touching.

Embrace the idea that we are the leaders we've been looking for. Grace Lee Boggs

It's hard not to soften the blow. But a friend tried to do that for another friend and ended up spoiling her, and now she's not going to see it. I'm now even more a spoilerphobe.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

I'm a little - okay, a lot - surprised by the decision to put the first 9 minutes on the web. I'm also surprised by the lack of advertising this week. I know there have been some commercials, but not nearly what I expected. I think Universal is counting a bit too much on grassroots, word-of-mouth advertising bringing in the bucks. And on web advertising. As odd as it is for me to imagine, most people really don't spend a great deal of time on the web.

Argh! I get "Unfortunately, the Operating System you are currently using is unsupported."

In OS9.2.2.

Sigh, I have to use my XP machine again. I really have to reinstall OSX.

hip deep in pie

Do you think that Serenity would be okay for a 9 year old? I'm thinking I may see if my nephew is interested when I am home for Thanksgiving this weekend. I can't think of anything that would freak him out. There's no swearing that isn't gorram or Chinese, is there? He's seen all the Star Wars movies and even martial arts movies, so I am sure the violence won't bother him.

I have already talked to him about seeing Wallace and Gromit, but I think he would like Serenity more.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

I think I've seen at least one ad during each show I've watched this week so it's not like they've stopped.

I dunno if the on-line bit will reach many people who haven't already seen it but if it does, good on them.
