The HenryBlakeing of Wash made a lot of sense to me -- one of the basic tragedies of war is that beloved people die senselessly. If it were all nobility and bravery and self-sacrificing war would be as glamorous as most movies pretend it is.

I think it was Connie. But I don't see that as all. Book would've known that was a betrayal to keep that hidden from Mal and their relationship wasn't like that.

Also, wouldn't everyone on both sides know who the commanding generals on both sides were? I see something much more secretive.
I also don't think that explains how he knows so much about criminality.
