The syncing was very good.

Firefly 4: Also, we can kill you with our brains
Discussion of the Mutant Enemy series, Firefly, the ensuing movie Serenity, and other projects in that universe. Like the other show threads, anything broadcast in the US is fine; spoilers are verboten and will be deleted if found.
But then why just Mal and not the others? so weird.Maybe the others already got it, as they were all ready to go, and Mal was last because he'd been up on the bridge supervising the plunge into atmo. The next theory I can conjure is along performance-enhancing lines, and I'm not a fan of that.
I don't so much care about the explanation of the injection -- more about why it was left in without a context.
someone in the lj Firefly community said that Mal tells Simon he guesses it's about time to be innoculated as they're walking and discussing River going along on the job. i didn't catch it on first viewing, but that doesn't surprise me. i plan on going again with my aunt sometime soon and will listen for it.
Maybe it was there to establish This Simon Guy Is A Doctor?
Joss's grocery list leaked.
Oh, the happy. The happy in buckets. The happy so great that I'm forming a fanclub chuckling a lot.
In the same scene, did Simon sneak something into a storage compartment of the mule? Or did I misread that?

Yeah, I thought it was that. Kind of like, "River! It's Simon! Simon, your brother!" right at the beginning. Heh.

Not that I noticed. I remember Jayne (I think) saying "spare clips are in the rear compartment" and then a shot of clips being dropped into said compartment. I don't remember Simon doing anything around the Mule other than being pissy with Mal and telling River to be careful.
It immediately struck me as Summer's voice. She has some very distinctive inflections.
As for the injection...although I can't recall the dialogue, I remember thinking that it might have something to do with Inara's schmancy seringe-in-a-box from the pilot. (Joss did say it would someday be revealed...)
Which later led me to speculate about an 'anti-Reaver' something the Alliance came up with after inflicting Paxil-whatever (won't Tom Cruise love THAT connection...see, see? haven't I been telling you psychopharmaceuticals are evil?!) on the unsuspecting.
