Firefly 4: Also, we can kill you with our brains
Discussion of the Mutant Enemy series, Firefly, the ensuing movie Serenity, and other projects in that universe. Like the other show threads, anything broadcast in the US is fine; spoilers are verboten and will be deleted if found.
Reports, both from some of the places who have posted these, and apparently from Joss himself at the Premier, is that there are five Sessions in total.
There was nothing said at the premier Q&A about these, so unless it was a private conversation?
So, what is the order of these segments, and is there a single place to get them from? Other than, you know, reading back through this thread. ;)
The link here: dcp "Firefly 4: Also, we can kill you with our brains" Aug 29, 2005 11:47:54 am PDT has links to them all.
what is the order of these segments
They were released 416, 1, 22, 165, so try watching in that order first.
416 has maximum WTF?
1 has maximum "Awwwww...."
Watching them in ascending numerical order works pretty well, too.
Re: "is there a single place to get them from" -- I am keeping a list of mirrors which links to each, in both .mov and .wmv versions, as well as single files which present all currently-available clips in release order.
Aaah Session 165. The craziness.
I just e-mailed the transcript to bix, but here it is for you dial-up/no sound people. For a short while, a Buffista exclusive! Also I only think this is ninety-five percent accurate, and maybe you guys can bring it up to a hundred. People seem to be spoilerfonting to let people experience them properly, so I'll be considerate.
RIVER: Yes I have a system. You make an assumption because you have a system, your system, you're symptomatic, it's chronic! You think it's benign, that it has to be cut out, this system is simple. Blanket folded thus the sheet pulled taut the mattress. The mattress can't be trusted, it has to be gutted. I looked under twenty and found a pea and you wonder why I'm not sleeping? [pause] Are you worried that I cut up my mattress for no reason or that I had a perfectly good reason that you can't see? Can't...see...anyone. Even the orderlies wear masks.
INTERVIEWER: Why did you cut up your mattress?
RIVER: I am trying to protect my spine.
INTERVIEWER: Are you worried you might be injured? Your movement trainers have given you excellent marks--
RIVER: No one will give me a mission.
INTERVIEWER: A mission.
RIVER: I have a reason. I'm...rea-son-a-ble. I have a reason.
[cut]
RIVER: My movement hasn't been dictated yet but I am not here for nothing. I...am a...sti...sty. And you know I have a spine. There's something wrong...with the body politic.
[cut]
RIVER: AAAAHHH! They're sticking in me! It's in the mattress, and it's crawling inside me! Please cut it out, please cut it out, please cut it out!
DragonCon has updated their site to reflect that Joss isn't coming. Nathan Fillion and Summer Glau have also dropped out.
Makes sense since Nathan and Summer will both be at screenings in Europe.

Chicago Serenity Press Screening (8/31, 5 pm) free passes still available.
PLEASE READ THE WHOLE MESSAGE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU RESPOND. THANK YOU!!
Universal has sent vampirefan 75 FREE passes (each good for 2 people) to a Serenity screening here in Chicago.
What: Serenity When: Wed, August 31st Time: 5 PM Where: AMC River East 322 Illinois St. Chicago
The passes are "first come/first seated" type passes-that means that just because you get a pass it DOES NOT guarantee that you will get in to see the movie. It is very possible that Universal is giving out tickets by other means - so the earlier you get there and get in line, the better chance you have of getting in.
She will plan on getting to the theater by about 1:30 pm so you can claim the passes BUT she is NOT offering to hold a spot in line for you.
She will hold the passes for you up until 4pm and if you don't show up (or arrange someone else to pick them up for you, she'll be emailing her phone number to those who claim passes) she's going to give them away. This may sound harsh, but as soon as they let us in, she's going in and doesn't want to be holding any passes as it may be difficult for her to get back out to give you your pass, plus it may be too late already as the theater may be full by that time and they will be wasted when they could have been given away...
With that in mind: Using the subject line "Serenity Screening Free Pass" please email vampirefan at [ serenity at vampirefan dot com ] with your real name. (No need for groveling or reasons why you deserve a pass.) ONE PASS PER PERSON. As soon as all the passes are claimed, she will send out an announcement and she will send out a confirmation email to each person who successfully claimed a pass.
Peace!
So I took some time to muse over Zoe, and why she's my favourite TV warrior woman. Two key things:
1. She's not otherly gifted. She's not a Buffy or a Xena.
2. She's comfortable with it. Her conflicts will come from other places, not the fact that she's fighting -- it's way time for that to happen for female fighters.
Yes and yes. This is also part of why I like Starbuck, although some of her backstory is frakking with that for me (not to get OT or into discussion of The Farm).
Back to Firefly, we also see at least one other woman in a similar role, in OOG. Would have been cool if one of Niska's goons was a woman.
