Firefly 4: Also, we can kill you with our brains
Discussion of the Mutant Enemy series, Firefly, the ensuing movie Serenity, and other projects in that universe. Like the other show threads, anything broadcast in the US is fine; spoilers are verboten and will be deleted if found.
I'm hiding in tianxiode's luggage, or possibly catching a ride on the wing of the plane.
I have school, I don't really have money for travel and who knows if I'd be able to get a ticket even if I did, and I probably couldn't get into this thing in London, but...these are minor details.
I'm torn. On the one hand, I want to wait and see the movie for the first time in all its final glory, special effects and all. On the other hand, I'm terribly afraid the suits will muck it up, and I want to see Joss's vision intact.
On the third hand, I don't have the money to go to London, so the internal debate is pointless.
I wish Joss would post somewhere and let us know if things are going well or badly in response to these screenings. I've never been this invested in a movie before! Make the caring stop.

There's always the Director's Cut on DVD.
sigh I hope it doesn't come down to that, though. I don't really expect Serenity to be as big as Star Wars , though it would be great, but I really want this movie to do well. Not only to get more, but to vindicate Joss. And, well, me.
I don't do the waiting well.
Ah-ha! Another convert, another toaster.
A friend of mine came over to hang out and watch dvds today. As I was putting in the dvd we were to watch, she noticed me taking out the Firefly dvd and inquired as to what it was. Warily, I told her simply that it was my favourite tv show of all time, but that I wasn't sure it was her thing. She said she'd give it a go anyway. I hadn't introduced it to her before as, like I said, I didn't think it was really her thing. She's the sort who's not willing to give anything more than a little bit of time before she judges, and tends to hate SF in all its forms. However, by the end of The Train Job, she was hooked.
Six episodes later and I've just sent her home with my box set. She mentioned something about staying up for the rest of the night to watch them all.
I got the usual "Why in the hell did they cancel this?!" but when I later referred to it as a 'western in space', she wet herself laughing and said "Oh, that's why they cancelled it." But! A new convert. One at a time, people, one at a time...
We're not gonna die. We can't die, Bendis. You know why? Because we are so very pretty. We are just too pretty for God to let us die.
Mal, 'Serenity'
Do you think this is a Powers shoutout?
Was Bendis terribly prominent when "Serenity" was first being written? The timing on that seems iffy to me.

When was it first written? He was prominent by 2001, for sure.
Who is this Bendis? Not Jonathan Woodward's character, I presume.
