Firefly 4: Also, we can kill you with our brains

Discussion of the Mutant Enemy series, Firefly, the ensuing movie Serenity, and other projects in that universe. Like the other show threads, anything broadcast in the US is fine; spoilers are verboten and will be deleted if found.

Never fall in love with somebody you actually love.

Definitely.

Also, in the Serenity book thing, Joss says Universal was on board before the DVD sales for Firefly was available. I'm confused as to how many version of the events I've seen now. He doesn't mention the millions of fans, though.

I may have to seize the cat.

Sounds to me (as if we ever really doubted) that Allyson is 100% spot-on with her assessment. Serenity is a bone (a delectable one, I think) that Universal threw Joss.

What is even happening?

Marketing machine likes to use fandom to its advantage but doesn't bother paying attention to the history of it?
Well, not for nothing, it seems like Joss, or someone who works for him, ought to have thought of Kristen and Allyson (and you for that matter, but you're not in L.A.).

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Allyson is 100% spot-on with her assessment

I don't agree. I think Universal wanted to work with Joss partly because he has a devoted fanbase. That makes him a better bet financially, and studios are all about the cha-ching. The most talented filmaker in the world won't get hired if his films don't sell tickets and crap filmmakers (like the tools who turn out the Adam Sandler films) get paid big bucks because they have a "following." So I agree with Allyson that the fans were not the reason the movie got made, but they WERE a factor in why they wanted to be in business with Joss in the first place.

Don't cry for me, Topic!Cindy. The truth is...

Well, the truth is that it's not a big deal. It's mostly a source of amusement to me at this point.

Also, I should say that there are people, who used to work for J. Weewee, that do think of us. (And think rather highly of us, no less.) So no worries.

ETA: Oooooh. Look. I'm a 4400. Do I get special powers?

Careful, you might end up babysitting Dakota Fanning instead.

Hey. New board.

Dakota Fanning is almost approaching the age I can stop being terrified of her.

In a year she'll be 12. I've known 12-year-olds who seemed much older than that age, and have gotten along with them fine. If she continues acting well, I may even be a huge fan of hers in 4 or 5 years.

Though that's unlikely unless she does some TV for a while. TV is where my heart grows fanly.

Also, Universal being on board before DVD sales has been said and repeated for a long time.

I believe this is a call-back to a discussion in Natter about Sean Combs declaring he would be henceforth known as "Diddy", which evolved (as they so often do) to speculation about Mr. Whedon's preferential hip-hop name.
