Firefly 4: Also, we can kill you with our brains

Discussion of the Mutant Enemy series, Firefly, the ensuing movie Serenity, and other projects in that universe. Like the other show threads, anything broadcast in the US is fine; spoilers are verboten and will be deleted if found.

Never fall in love with somebody you actually love.

The content of a show bears more interest than the political motivations, usually. That said, political and social motivation study can be fun (and occasionally the point).

That said, I really don't care who Joss and/or Tim donate to. Well, unless they donated to my back pocket(tm).

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

I found the link to be accusatory toward Tim, but am aware that I'm a jackass.

ETA: It's Tim's call, I think.

If I only had a brain...

Have we ever seen anybody in power treat Companions with respect? Nope. The bad guy in the Heart of Gold episode, the bad father of the virginal son on whatever-the-hell planet it was, Atherton Wing, Mal....

Visilurking

Look, to my knowledge Tim has never expressed political opinions publicly, with the possible exception of his feelings for Israel. For someone to "out" him as having a certain political slant based on contribution information that, although must be publicly accessible under FEC law, is generally not meant by the contributors to be publicized; well I consider that to be inappropriate. I'm less disturbed about the Joss information since he publicly campaigned for Kerry, but still it bothers me that his contribution information was just thrown out there.

The purpose of publicizing election contributions is to try to reduce fraud and monkey-business, not to "out" people's political opinions. Besides, the more prevalent the list is used for the latter purpose, the less often people will donate to campaigns they believe in. I'd hate to see that happen.

ETA: This post is now moot but I hate deleting posts...

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Have we ever seen anybody in power treat Companions with respect?

The sheriff and deputy (or whatever) in The Train Job.

I've outted Tim as being conservative, I think. I guess that's out of line come to think of it.

If I only had a brain...

Hmm.

Okay, good guys treat Inara with respect. Bad guys treat her rudely.

Ergo, Mal is not a good guy.

Works for me.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Ok, I'm not sure that this is what the disputed post was getting at, but:

The fact that the two people most responsible for the creative direction of the show are not actually in agreement politically hopefully is a downer to arguments that there's some sort of over-arching political theme that can map neatly on to one of those so-handy already-defined categories or platforms.
