Capitalist libertarianism is very big on property rights. Serenity's crew on the other hand steal stuff. They rob folk. They, are, thieves.

Okay to post a political compass graphic, and say that Mal seems closer to Bush than Badnarik?
Oh, look, tortured connections to pet subjects.
I'd rather not spend any time talking about Joss and Tim's political beliefs: it's really not relevant to the discussion.
I'm a text gal, and I'm not all that interested in authorial intent.
Additionally? That kind of commentary just feels rude. Tim, at least, is a member of this community, and I'd hate to think you felt free to dig up, oh, my political contributions, or ita's or Deb's to post publicly.

Have you seen the discussion in Natter? There's been some discussion about judging authorial intent.
Yes, I have. And I think that text wins out over authorial intent; because regardless of what I meant to say, if my text says the status of Companions is kind of uncertain, and my lead regularly insults Companions without anyone challenging that, the fact that I meant Companions to be highly respected doesn't hold a lot of water.
Just as a fr'instance. Ahem.

I do get very tired of Mal trashing Inara in front of people.
It's because he
wuvs
her. And is seven.
Mal's welcome to do what he likes, but it would have supported the premise better if people had been actually outraged by his old-fashioned and prejudiced insults. Nobody was: they all took it in stride as just something Mal did.
Also? Atherton Wing. So.
It's because he wuvs her. And is seven.
There's a cut scene where he pulls her pigtails....
