Yeah, the mongoose were not so much of a brilliant idea. Hawaii is sadly overrun with mammals that oughtn't to be there.
Firefly 4: Also, we can kill you with our brains
Discussion of the Mutant Enemy series, Firefly, the ensuing movie Serenity, and other projects in that universe. Like the other show threads, anything broadcast in the US is fine; spoilers are verboten and will be deleted if found.
Not to mention the bajillions of unique native species that have been extinguished. critters and such that shouldn't be in Hawaii
Now I'm getting a sad Hawaii-That-Was vibe.
A pure unspoiled Hawaii would be otally without mammals, right? Not even ninjas?
Not even ninjas, -t.
But the Polynesian settlers brought dogs and pigs with them, at the least, and then the Europeans showed up with rats, goats, cats, and so forth, and the damage really escalated.
I think Hawaiian Monk Seals woulda still chosen to live there, but I think they may be the only ones considered native mammals.
Oh, duh, lori. I forgot about the monk seals. And me an environmental specialist. Heh.
They are, of course, hugely endangered.
Monk seals only. That fact could come in handy.
Excellent.
Well, with the not really hanging out in the forests and all, they aren't usually what think of when they talk about mammals.
Hmm...interesting website (as usual, it has little if anything to do with Firefly, but never mind) about the Hawaiian animals.
Poor Albatrosses...a friend of mine once tried to start a debate over who would win in a fight between a Mongoose and an Albatross...doesn't seem quite so hilarious now. Why would anyone introduce Mongooses? (not Mongeese) Was there a snake problem, or did two guys have a contest to see who could bring in the most random animal?
One more question: Why is it that ninjas are always funny/cool? -t just randomly mentioned ninjas, and I laughed. Why?
Did the Polynesians not have rats?
