Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

What's that, brenda? You need to speak louder! Because then when I say I liked The Train Job, also, I won't look like a total crackhead.

Hey. New board.

Is there something wrong with liking The Train Job? I never saw it as a pilot, so I just love the actiive wildness of the story. It's so archetypal: steal from the poor, feel bad about it, give it back, piss off a scary guy. Okay, maybe not that archetypal. But very Mal-icious.

"There are two sorts of people in the world: those who believe Joss Whedon is a genius and those who are wrong." - Connie Ogle, Miami Herald

I don't hate "The Train Job." I'm just hoping he can get to some of my favorites by Thursday. If he sticks to the episode order, I don't know how far along he'd be by then.

All is well that ends in pizza.

I liked it too, Brenda.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Okay, it's no Out of Gas. But honestly, for dragging newbies in, Serenity, both parts, is kind of a lot to ask. I've totally turned people intrigued with TJ, and then gotten them to watch the rest.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

But honestly, for dragging newbies in, Serenity, both parts, is kind of a lot to ask.

I've never had a problem with the people I've converted over.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I didn't really like "Train Job" when it was broadcast, but loved "Serenity" once I got the DVDs.

Maybe it's just me, but "Train Job" didn't do a good job of introducing me to the characters. Or maybe I just had to watch a couple episodes (I only watched the first two broadcast ones, then gave up) to get to know the characters well enough so I'd fall for "Serenity" when I got the DVDs.

But nowadays, I watch "Serenity" far more often than "Train Job."

Hey. New board.

Agreed. I like the Train Job for completely separate reasons.

And I'm not at the point, really, where I pick and choose Firefly episodes to watch. When I get in a FF mood, I tend to start at Serenity, and watch them all over the course of a couple of weeks. Exceptions being made pretty much exclusively for Objects in Space, because I love dissecting the dialogue: I see it as the show's "Restless."

"You see? THAT's what they want. Love, and a bit with a dog."

I started watching Firefly two times before I was sucked in enough to keep going. The first two times, my mind started to wander during 'The Train Job' and I stopped paying attention. Third time, I decided to start with something I hadn't watched yet, and it stuck. I haven't watched the ep again since finishing the series, but I'd guess I'll like it more now that I have.

I did loan my friend the dvds in preparation for the movie, and told him to go ahead and skip 'The Train Job' for now and go back and watch it later.

when i die, please bake my ashes into a brick and use me to hit fascists.

I absolutely adore "The Train Job" and so far have always used that as my conversion episode. With people who, like me, are tickled by starting with a bar fight and the kicking-of-bad-guy-into-engine is the final thing leading to addiction.

Also, just got back from Batman which rocks!! and I got to see the Serenity trailer!! My movie companion apparently hasn't heard me rave enough about Firefly (he works in a different lab in the institute), because I actually had to explain my squeeing over the trailer. He's already slated for conversion, however, as soon as he finishes Buffy season seven...

Am I the only one who quite likes the trailer music, un-Firefly-y though it may be?
