Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Well, technically he didn't own the droid....

OK, that's a reach.

In TESB I now expect Vader to say, "Hey, threepio, how's it goin'?"

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

Someone somewhere might not have seen it.

My minion has never seen any of the Star Wars movies. I think she's a clone.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Well on that point of continuity, Yoda never left Degobah (or however its spelt) so I can give George a pass on him knowing Chewie. It's still pandering, but it doesn't screw things up as much as C3PO.

The only thing I can say on the latter is that C3PO was a common droid type built by Annakin from spare parts and a kit, and later got upgraded when he went off with the others.

edited to make Gandalfe look craxy.

The generation that could change the world is still looking for its car keys.

later got upgraded when he went off with the others

Actually, downgraded, because R2 can fly in the new ones!

Edited to mention that Frankenbuddha is a fooken bastard.

A Revell Snap-Tite© Protocol Droid kit (paint sold separatly).

and later got upgraded when he went off with the others.

He got gold-plated during the Clone Wars. The worst moment in the whole Clone Wars cartoon....

But now that I think of it, Anakin saw him after that....

"When I look at people that I would like to feel have been a mentor or an inspiring kind of archetype of what I'd love to see my career eventually be mentioned as a footnote for in the same paragraph, it would be, like, Bowie." ~Trent Reznor

But, as is shown in the opening scene of Episode IV, there are lots of protocol droids who look exactly like 3PO. Why would Vader assume this one was the same one he owned? After all, what are the odds? It's not a continuity error at all. It's just pandering to the original trilogy audiences for no reason again.

If I only had a brain...

A Revell Snap-Tite© Protocol Droid kit (paint sold separatly).

And don't we all wish we could see the Empire's Snap-On Tools pinup calendar.

Tommyrot, that's the first thing I thought of, too. However, one suspects that Obi-Wan did own R4, the droid he was working with in Ep III, so it's really very lame. At the moment, I favour the idea that at that stage he's still half in his 'Old Ben' character and feigning ignorance, which is I admit only slightly better.

So, if Mal is most like Han, (shoots first), who's Chewbacca?

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Hmmm. Zoe kicks ass and has lots of hair, but I wouldn't say it's an exact correspondence.

I'm hesitating between Jayne (fighting style) and Kaylee (helpful in engineering work).
