What are you guys talking about?
A possible flashback in the trailer would (if it was a flashback) contradict the scene in the pilot (the original, two hour one) where Simon says he paid folks to put River in cryo and ship her to him.
Discussion of the Mutant Enemy series, Firefly, the ensuing movie Serenity, and other projects in that universe. Like the other show threads, anything broadcast in the US is fine; spoilers are verboten and will be deleted if found.

I watched that thing nine times and still have no idea where you are coming from. Gimme a line. All I saw Simon do was look profile-y in one shot, and launch an exploding thing in another.
I really do think it has the potential to be the next Star Wars, seriously.
I myself prefer to imagine it as Star Trek. Cancelled show, groundswell of fans, so many movies it starts getting sketchy (WHALES?), etc.
bad continuity.
In a Whedon production? Never!
...how old is Angel?

I haven't watched it recently (i.e. in the last few hours) so I'm not sure exactly what scene that is.

In the scene with the exploding thingy, River is strapped into the chair from her OMGNEEDLESINHEAD flashbacks from the show.

Though looking at the screencap, I guess that's not neccessarily River in the chair.
OK, I think that was River was in the chair. I'm down with how this could have been pre-River-hibernation.
I think River was already in cryo before Simon picked her up. IIRC.
But the scene from the trailer with River in the chair of doom and Simon with the flashy thing suggests either another rescue or a retconn of the original.
With the amount of trouble that River's bound to get into given her status as wanted fugitive I'm inclined to think that this scene is not a flashback. In the pilot episode Simon says:
For two years, I couldn't get near her. Then I was contacted by some men, some underground movement. They-they said she was in danger, that-that the government was... playing with her brain. If I funded them they could sneak her out in cryo. Get her to Persephone, and from there, I could take her... wherever.
From this passage it seems that the first time Simon meets up with River (albeit frozen) is on Persephone.
Dinosaurs!!!!
I haven't watched the preview in hopes of seeing it in theaters this weekend. Have they said what it's attached to?

Simon broke her loose. Cryo-dudes smuggled her out. Where's the grief?
