Hello, all. My window box has a cap of 20 inches (away from any drifting culprits like walls). My street was plowed once, at 9 last night, and has not been since that we can tell. And yes, the snow is horizontal, fast, and tiny glittering shards of glass instead of actual snow.
I do not live near a waterfront, but -- full moon high tide at 11am! We are expecting exciting stories about storm surge.
Sadly, the Patriots/Steelers game will be played in Pittsburgh, where it is cold but the snow is 2 days old. Last year, the championship game was played about 12 hours after a blizzard, and the stands were full of snow piles, and these crazy bundled Michelin Man fans would throw snow into the air like icy fireworks. It was hilarious to watch, and I am not even talking about what happened on the field.
Quick question - if your car battery is low, but you get it to start, will just running the car recharge the battery or do you have to drive the car?
I didn't go.. yet. By dint of having fallen back asleep when I lay down on my bed to put in ear wax drops. I'm thinking of calling Green Cab and seeing if they'll pick me up.
My street is plowed enough that I could climb over the snow berm that is my front steps and sidewalk, and walk up to Highland (which is surely plowed, it's a city emergency route) and thence to the Red Line. The buses may even be running, though I'm not going to stand waiting for one.
Thanks, DX.
Nonian, I think you should let it run for a good while. If the problem is just the battery, that should help. If it is something else (your alternator) it might not.

The National Weather Service in Taunton issued an urgent bulletin today to warn people to stay home. "If you leave the safety of being indoors, you are putting your life at risk," the message said.
cereal to nag...
It's not just very snowy, it's extremely cold (my thermometer reads 8 degrees F, right now) and the temperatures are expected to drop further. There's nobody out to see you, if you were to fall or get otherwise stuck. Your in danger from plows, sanding trucks, etc., too.
t nag
(sorry it's frozen open)
Cindy -- the front of my car is snow-free because of drifting, not human intervention. Since I can barely get my front door open (five feet above the sidewalk, approx.) I think I know where the snow blew to.
ok, car is running. hopefully this will fix the problem. it's joe's car so i don't need it to work, but i don't like knowing that it's not working either.
I can't find any information on total snowfall for this area - weather.com says 3 inches total preciptation for January. Whatever.
ION, why is Diane Feinstein cheerleading for Condi Rice on the news this morning? Feh.
It's only started snowing here a while ago. They're predicting 37-55 cms between now and tomorrow. Have I mentioned we already had about 40 cms this week?
Preparing to make a tunnel....somewhere warmer.
