Jayne: Captain, can you stop her from bein' cheerful, please? Mal: I don't believe there is a power in the 'verse that can stop Kaylee from being cheerful. Sometimes you just wanna duct tape her mouth and dump her in the hold for a month.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

This conversation is making me nauseous.

"Do not say 'I feel nauseous' unless you are certain you have that effect on others."

Problematic means "open to doubt or debate."

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

River's ice planet is open to doubt.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

maybe I should take Krav if for no other reason than I could (possibly) protect myself

The first two levels concentrate on how to kick and punch the simplest ways, and how to get out of basic chokes and bear hugs. It's flexible, because there's room for obsessives, and room for people who want to feel a bit safer.

Then there's a personal irritation, problematic, which does not mean full of problems, no matter how it sounds.

Merriam Webster online says:

1 a : posing a problem : difficult to solve or decide b : not definite or settled : UNCERTAIN c : open to question or debate : QUESTIONABLE
2 : expressing or supporting a possibility

Isn't 1a the same as full of problems? Or does the dictionary just put in definitions based on improper usage too? I'm not trying to snark here, I'm actually curious.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Problematic means "open to doubt or debate."

Huh. Did not know that.

I also found this definition:

baffling: making great mental demands; hard to comprehend or solve; "a baffling problem"; "I faced the knotty problem of what to have for breakfast"; "a problematic situation at home"

which is a bit closer to what I would have thought, but not quite there. Complicated would have been closer.

Part of my problem is that my eyes hurt. Is it from staring at the monitor all day? I do that almost every day. Or because my glasses are dirty? Or because of cold-induced fatigue?

Clearly, if you are only just recently getting up.

Wha-huh? No, I've been busting my ass at work all day long, is all, and no time for B.org.

I need to send some e-mail and listen to my voicemail and hunt down some files I need. But maybe I'll just slack off for a few minutes before forming a raiding party to toss a coworker's office.

Cue descriptivist v. proscriptivist debate....

Clearly, if you are only just recently getting up.

I clearly need to work on my reading comprehension skillz. I somehow got the impression you'd just crawled out of bed. Nevermind.

But maybe I'll just slack off for a few minutes before forming a raiding party to toss a coworker's office.

I think this is a good plan.

Note that 1a says "a : posing a problem : difficult to solve or decide," not just "posing a problem." It's one of those ticky, obsessive things that sane people probably don't care about, but "problematic" is one of those words that once had a very specific nuance of doubtful or open to debate and is now used much less precisely.
