Giles, if you would like to get by in American society, then you are going to have to follow our traditions. You're the patriarch. You have to host the festivities, or it's all meaningless.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

There really, really, really needs to NOT be a huge tray of delicious cookies right in front of my desk. Really. A lot. The end.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

The only problem with a website is building traffic. A monument we could deliver right to sara's office lobby.

But I can't get that mixed up with the "sara is awardalicious" ones.

Oh jeezusgodno.

And generally, no. Ha ha.

See this? This is me. In another state, thankfully.

The lecturer (who is excellent) is a self-declared lapsed Popper-ian, so we get to hear quite a lot about him, as well.

I suppose that all scientists are lapsed Popperians, in the sense that we aim for, but cannot possibly meet his standards. According to Popper, we're all supposed to be working feverishly to disprove our own ideas. That's hard to do. I know I've never done it. Fortunately, science doesn't depend on the perfect virtue of individual scientists. There always are plenty of other people happy to work feverishly to disprove our ideas, even if we can't be relied on to do it ourselves. Then we can get pissed off about it and work feverishly to disprove their ideas. Science is Popperian even if scientists are not.

Nilly, if you are enjoying this class you might want to read the breezy, easy-to-follow book Wittgenstein's Poker, which takes a very personal approach to philosophy of science based on a purported confrontation between Wittgenstein and Popper at an informal seminar.

LOVE IT.

We can direct people to the website that way, too.

Our wings are not tired.

waves hi from the great white north

Hi peeps. I am scrolling through my sucked threads catching up on thousands of missed posts. I flew to NY on the 29th after several days of little to no sleep and manged to get very very sick. The first 5 days I was here I didn't even check my email or phone messages. I curled up in a chair and drank water and took cold medications. Now I have passed it on to the rest of my family, including my sister. Her birthday was yesterday; I came here to celebrate with her. DH and my sister are taking anti-biotics, the boys aren't so bad and cold pills and cough syrup will suffice.

I am feeling better now. Hoping for a big winter storm to prevent me from flying home on Friday morning. I haven't played in the snow yet.

Back to reading the last week's posts....
