Oh, I totally grok that. I just think they STILL get a serious lack of respect (proportionally speaking) from the national sports press despite everything. But that may also be the feelings of a football fan in a baseball town leaking through as well.

The Sox won the Series. I can forgive the Pats if they don't repeat the Bowl. For at least five years. (I originally typed ten, but I must admit even my beneficence has its limits.)

We are a baseball town, and although the Pats true blue fans are every bit as diehard as the Sox (well, close enough) true blue fans, it's just not as important to us overall, nor to our press, and so I wonder how that affects the national press.

Well, I think part of the deal with the national press, is that no-one on the Pats is especially colorful or loud, so we come across as a little dull.
Tom Brady's good (and certainly photogenic) but he doesn't put up Manning type numbers or carry teams (at least perception-wise) like some of the guys who get a lot more press (aka Brett Favre). No one indulges in Terrell Owens-like behavior, internal dissent tends to get dealt with quickly and efficiently (the "They hate their coach" and the "Ty Law" kerfuffles went away pretty quickly), and Belichick keeps a tight lid on everything press-related anyway.
Coupled with the history of the team (i.e. sucking like a giant Hoover for years) I think that equals the national press looking for other things to talk about/praise. The fact that the local press is more baseball-centric only feeds into that.
Sorry for the sports natter, all. I have almost NO ONE to talk football with in meat space, and it comes up here so infrequently that, since it did, I ran with it.

The day is almost over and I made progress in some me things and did a teeny tiny amount of job stuff. Still, my desk looks messy because I need to file stuff. feh on filing.
Oh, and BTW, Dana is safely in London, and says that all must bow to me for my birthday.

Not to mention the fact that the team plays closer to Providence than Boston, and that it was actively trying to move to Hartford a few years back.
Football will always be dead last in the Boston sports mind. The Pats are relatively new compared to the other three teams in town (a lot of old timers still root for the Giants), the games are an incredible pain to get to, and they've only become a consistent winner since Belechick got there. It could be worse. At least they get more coverage than the Beanpot now.
