I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

Huh. I thought spousal privilege meant that you weren't forced to testify against your spouse, not that you weren't allowed to.

The evil is this way?

Why should other people's lives or liberty be less important than my marriage vows, which I can break with a snap of a finger anyway?

And you've exactly idenitified the issue. Privilege -- any privilege -- requires a balancing of two goods (or two bads). The desire to have full and frank communication between people in particular relationships (marriage, attorney-client, priest-penitent) has to be balanced against the desire for the truth to come out and the guilty punished.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

This was also my understanding, based on the many years of watching Law & Order

However, I may have merely been mesmerized by Sam Waterston's eyebrows. Give 'em hell, McCoy!

You definition may be correct, depending upon the state involved -- it really does vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction.

This was also my understanding, based on the many years of watching Law & Order

NY may be different than California.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

(is anyone unclear where Anaheim is? Is it not true that it is in a different county and not actually in LA?)

The Detroit Pistons are not only not in Detroit, they're not in the same county. I think it's the same with the Lions. The Tigers and Redwings are right downtown, though.

Indeed. Also, fiction may be different than reality. It's all good. Except Waterston's eyebrows.

t shudder

I may or may not be in the throes of a sugar high.

From what I've seen and read, the folks at "Law & Order" do try to be accurate about NY law. I remember a few eps with the law in other jurisdictions being an issue -- a cross-over with "Homicide" demonstrated the differences between NY and Maryland law on some matters.

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

Well, it's true that the NY Giants play in New Jersey, but then, where were they gonna play, White Plains? Also, New Jersey has its own football team.

Once upon a time the Dodgers were the Brooklyn Dodgers rather than the New York Dodgers, but at least that was a matter of specificity. (The Yankees are, sadly, not officially the Bronx Yankees, although it would be excellent fodder for crude jokes if they were.)

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

The Yankees are the Bronx Bombers.

"Why do the facts hate America?" - Jon Stewart

I guess I understand why even though they play outside the city, it’s the Detroit Pistons rather than the Auburn Hills Pistons but if your team has been the Anaheim Angels for years now, and in fact plays in Anaheim, which is also a major city, you should not get to change your name to the LA Angels for no good reason.

Again, this bugs me way out of proportion to what it should, and I have no decent explanation for that. Except maybe that I hate the Angels anyhow for beating SF in a world series.

Also? If my husband molests a child I don’t care what laws I have to break to testify against him, if I don’t kill him first.
