Meanwhile, it seems I've accumulated enough frequent flyer points that I could fly first class across the Pacific for the princely sum of $800. Hmmm...

It's worth it, BT. Especially across the Pacific.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

They do sell out. Which reminds me....

If I were going to take Amtrak from SF to LA, which train stations would I use?

deborah grabien - May 03, 2006 11:30:53 am PDT #9173 of 10001
It really doesn't matter. It's just an opinion. Don't worry about it. Not worth the hassle.

Tom,would you be taking the Coast Starlight? Because I believe that leaves from Oakland.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

There's an Amtrak affiliated bus from SF (the Ferry Building) to Oakland (and also other stations, probably). I know there's a train from Jack London Square (Oakland) to Bakersfield and a connecting bus thence to LA. I think the Richmond Amtrak Station might be the most convenient for BART, but I'm not sure what trains stop there.

I know the Coast Starlight stops at Martinez, which I could easily drop you at. Looks like it also stops in Oakland and San Jose, but I don't know offhand how easy those stations are to get to. I'm pretty sure any option besides the Coast Starlight will involve a bus.

(eta: I happen to have been arranging a trip by rail to Yosemite, so I've picked up a bit Amtrak knowledge, but it's focused on what would be handy for me, and not for Tom, I'm afraid)

Hmm. I think I'll drop out of the Alcatraz tour, then, unless my doing so would screw us up; are we getting a group rate, and if so, would that be affected by me not going? It seems like there's already a good number of people doing the tour.

Sorry to be flaky, but I realized that I'd rather not commit to stuff ahead of time.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

No group rate, however, we will be affected as we will be sad you aren't going with us.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Zmayhem Alcatraz tickets purchased, with sadness due to the lack of Kate -- but, then, IIRC, we get extra Kate that weekend anyway so that is some slight balm on the wound.
