"The fact that we live at the bottom of a deep gravity well, on the surface of a gas covered planet going around a nuclear fireball 90 million miles away and think this to be normal is obviously some indication of how skewed our perspective tends to be."

Not to mention that when the giant escalators at Porter stop working, you're in for quite a workout.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

OMG! Deb just called to tell me that she went out onto my 2nd floor porch, thinking it was the front door, and locked herself out!

Luckily the 1st floor tenant Tim was home. I called him and he heroically came up to my apartment and rescued her.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

It's like a Deb watch-n-post. Yay, heroic neighbor!

Our wings are not tired.

Yikes! Good thing she had a phone.

This just in...

due to the extremely nasty weather Kate's Mystery Books in Cambridge has decided to postpone its annual holiday party. The party will instead take place next Friday, Dec. 16, with something like 30 authors signing between 5:30 and 8 p.m.

FAQ wife tells me Deb is at Kate's now signing a pile of books, since she obviously won't be able attend the event next week.

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

Oh, that's so disappointing!

Art Crawl!!!

That's too bad! How disappointing for everyone.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Sorry for the attendees next week that won't get to see Deb too. Blah. Stupid snow.

It really doesn't matter. It's just an opinion. Don't worry about it. Not worth the hassle.

Yikes! Good thing she had a phone.

No substitute for a brain, which I appear to be completely lacking the minute the snow starts falling.

Seriously, it was too funny. I was standing out there in an ankle-high snowdrift, and there was a man on a similar second floor balcony up the street, except that his doors hadn't been briskly pulled closed and locked behind him. He looked at me, and offered up a tentative wave; I waved back, and had visions of standing there like some sort of surreal tacky lawn sculpture, snow settling gently on me, birds nesting in my hair, showing up in the spring thaw...

In other words? Deb hereby nominates herself for Doofus of the Year. And Jon is a major mensch. Had me off the roof in minutes.

Had a splendid time at Kates, weirdly enough; Got to talk to DX on the phone, and a few other writers who hadn't got the cancellation email showed up (John Sedgewick, for one), and some customers who'd driven in; I had a splendid industry gossip session with Kate and she kept the store open until Vortex showed up. We went to Frank's for surf and turf; very nice food.

So what's the plan for during the day tomorrow?

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

LOVE Frank's. I miss it but I had to stop going there because they kept overcooking my steaks. There are just some things I cannot forgive a steakhouse for! But, yum.
