Chicago: only free zoo in America (Lincoln Park Zoo); very nice un-free zoo (Brookfield); Shedd Aquarium; Field Museum (Sue!)
Point of order: the National Zoo in DC is also free, or was when I visited at the F2F. I will be visiting Chicago too, one of my best friends from Uni days now lives there. On past performance, Buffista-friendly free time will be hard to come by, but we'll see what can be done.
We need to do the photo safari at The Wild Animal Park. I also think at that time of year we may still be able to book the overnight stay actually out on the plains in the park.
Ooh, good idea. It shall be so!
SNORE AND ROAR! SNORE AND ROAR!
September is the height of hurricane season. Come visit. You'll be blown away.
See, if you sneak off in May, you could do the 2006 F2F, here in SF.
BTW, I need to ping the Somerville/Boston folks about the weekend of 9 December; should I just do that in Beep Me?
I think Beep me is best at least to start, Deb.
Will do, as soon as I'm finished with chapter section and am less scattered.
Billytea, Roar and Snore was impossibly fun. But if you can finagle it, get on the adult only one because the family ones are, according to a worker, full up with boy scouts.
San Francisco! Paxton Gate now has more skulls and penis bones than ever!
See, now that's the way to design an ad campaign.
See, if you sneak off in May, you could do the 2006 F2F, here in SF.
But if I visit in May, I'll miss DragonCon. I think I'll have an easier time getting round to scattered Buffistas than I will hunting down all the freaks individually.
Heh. (Waving at Jon - can you e me with address/directions to your place from the airport, so I can tell the cabdriver where to go, please sir? Also, what you and Mme. B like to drink, so that I can bring a bottle?)
Basics: arriving Thursday, 8 December. Vortex is coming up from DC (YAY!) and staying with friends; we shall hook up, because Vortex is my bebe, she is. I'll be signing, with Clea, at Kate's Mystery Bookstore, on Friday, 9 December; we're on from 7:15 to 8 PM. Hoping for dinner with as many locals as can make it out on Friday.
Saturday, Nora was talking about getting together, and maybe we can do a local lunch? Not sure what's going on Saturday night - I think that's the actual party at Kate's, and I do wish she'd update her website - but also hoping to see beloved buddy and science writer Ken Howard and his wife Jessica, and their now 18 or so month old twins, Adam and Jack.
Sunday is our friend Sandra's tree-triming brunch thang in Reading; she's a beloved buddy and I spent a superb weekend hooked up with her, drinking prosecco and wandering around in San Diego, and we both got to spend the Sunday with Cass, which was totally happy-making.
Monday morning, New York flight - Two nights at Trump Tower, and things are pretty jammed up, since I'm going to see my daughter, and AmyLiz (YAAAAAAAAAAY!) and my friend Laura Anne. Home from JFK on the Wednesday.
So - Boston? Somerville? Theo and VW and Cindy and all?
