"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Steph, have you seen Cassandra French's Finishing School for Boys? It's sort of parody of chick=lit where Cassandra keeps 3 men chained in her cellar as she treats them to be better boyfriend material. Surprisingly funny in a surreal way.

This is a great book. Weird and funny.

Anyone driven from Michigan to Chicago lately? Recommendations? MapBlast is telling me to take the Indiana Toll Road again.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Dunno - is there still construction there?

If you got the time, it might be fun to take a ferry across lake Michgan and then drive south from Wisconsin.

I haven't made the trip recently. I can fire off an e-mail to my folks and see what route they've been taking lately.

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

Anyone driven from Michigan to Chicago lately? Recommendations?

Don't do it. I've been driving from Indiana to Chicago fairly regularly. I usually take side roads the whole way to avoid the highways. They're all under construction and they all suck.

What day and what time of day are planning on going?

Don't do it.

Well, I kind of need to go to Chicago today, and I don't particularly want to pay $500 for a plane ticket or find a way to get myself across town from Union Station.

What day and what time of day are planning on going?

Heh. This afternoon.

Coming into the city during afternoon rush hour, the skyway will be your best bet. But, there is some construction so expect delays.

Thanks, ChiKat. I probably should mention that I drive I-94 every day, everything is under construction here, too, and that once it took me six hours to drive from Chicago to Kalamazoo due to flooding and torrential rainstorms, so I have a pretty high bar for "bad".

I don't mind slow-going traffic as long as it's going. But, one Sunday evening, it took me 2 hours to get from Merrillville, Ind. to the Illinois state line--that usually takes 30-45 minutes. I was going bugfuck just sitting on the skyway. I finally got off and took side streets home. I was going slow, but at least I was GOING.

If you're coming in this afternoon, you've got a good chance of "torrential rainstorms," as well as a tornado or hail--nasty weather today!
