Just a note about that last - unlike other locales, my plan for New Orleans is to be so overstuffed from meals that having food available at the prom is a very low priority. If others feel the same way, we may want to take that into consideration when planning the overall amount to have on hand.
Here's the thing. We need to spend $1500 on Saturday night between food and drinks. In DC we spent around $400 on drinks. So we need to spend the money on the catering that night or we have to give them the difference as payment for the room. So, have an appetite for Saturday night. The food that the hotel has available looks to be quite good and a big chunk of the money we need to collect is going to this item.
So, the plan is drink and eat more?!

I've driven from KC to Memphis before, and I could crash with my friends in Springfield for the night and drive to Mmephis in the am....Matt, I can't make a committment now, because I simply don't know how jobs/money will be by then. But put me down as a "maybe," and if I CAN go, I'll share gas $$ and driving duties.

No worries, I drive a 4-door Cavalier sedan with auto. Also, am a driving fiend, so 7 hours behind the wheel doesn't make me blink. But I would want to get underway by 10:30 am Friday - crashing at my place would be an option if you don't want to get up in the early a.m. (I think Springfield is about 5 hours from Memphis if you go the Thayer/Hardy route.)
