the restart did not work. I cannot figure out what the problem is. I use google so often that this error is actually disabling my ability to surf. No problems on my home computer at all. I guess I may need to disable all extensions when I go back to work and start over.
le nubian, I was having a lot of trouble with firefox freezing, most especially with Google. I did some checking and it is a known bug that is caused by some add-ons. I deleted most of my add-ons and am having much less trouble.
There's an about:config tweak for the "Unresponsive script" thing. [link]
Basically the default value for how long Firefox will wait around for a script to finish just times out too quickly. I run into it a lot during threadsucks.

thanks! I read that site all the time and didn't think to search the site for this.
To be proper, the Google search sheet referred to above should be printed 2-up on a mimeograph machine.

Ooh! Found at Lifehacker, Free Direct Audio Converter and CD Ripper software at Giveaway of the Day (today only). [link]
I'm a little embarassed to ask, but....how is that software different from iTunes?
Don't mock me.
This one can do all sorts of conversions between all the popular formats, can split and join mp3s and wavs, and can also convert MIDI directly to mp3 (if one should ever want to do that). Also, it's not really intended to be a player AFAIKT.
So there's just some overlap between this and iTunes.
Can iTunes convert between different formats? Even WMA? I haven't really played with it so much.
Thanks for that link, DX! Sounds like a great program. I've been using a shareware IMTOO program for my WMA -> MP3 conversions.
