I've been using home networking for forever. My collection of pretty pictures looks so much better on the big screen, not to mention I don't have a stereo in the living room, and can set my TiVo from work.

do you need an ethernet card for the Tivo? Why?
So that you can connect it to a network. The TiVo doesn't come with network hardware, just a modem for calling headquarters.

Really? Mine came with an ethernet port. All I had to buy was the wireless network adapter thingy.
Is yours a Series 3?
My series2 has a USB port, not an ethernet port. I could either add the USB WiFi adapater or a USB to Ethernet adapter.
Pretty sure it's a Series 2.

We have a physical Ethernet cable running around the corner into the living room, and another one running from that bridge to the kids' video games. Maybe it's time to snake those cables under the crawl space.
