"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Does anybody have one of those wireless weather stations, where you stick a (set of) sensor(s) outside and it monitors indoor and outdoor temperature, rainfall, etc? Any brand or model recommendations? I want something midrange, not where the house looks like a total freak lives in it, but where I can gather some useful information, from the new land, etc. But not, like, crazy expensive.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

I think my mom was shopping for one recently. Suspect dad and stepmom likely have one as well. Emails shall be shot now, when come back hope to bring recs.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

Have a look at Oregon Scientific. They have a pretty wide range of features and prices.

I have a simple clock with indoor/outdoor thermometer, similar to this: [link]

My Dad has one like this. He really likes the projection feature, which seems weird to me.

Mothra's reply: I researched several simple weather stations and either Oregon Scientific or La Crosse are fairly reasonable (it was a La Crosse that we saw in that store that they were out of) and they have good reps. The more bells you add, the more the cost goes up. I pretty much was looking at indoor/outdoor temps and humidity. Adding rainfall and wind gauges add $$$$.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

I bought a low-end version at Target a couple years ago, and it lasted like 3 months before permanently crapping out on me....

information libertarian

Also, it has occurred to me only now that if I am using Frodo's network card for Eowyn to get online, then I can't transfer files from Frodo to Eowyn. I have to transfer them from Frodo to Rosie and then from Rosie to Eowyn.

Clearly, Frodo is straight, Eowyn is gay, and Rosie swings both ways. At least, this was my initial reaction to your post.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

I'm fairly sure I've read that fic somewhere... Totally implausible, what with the Frodo is straight thing.

Hee! Well, Rosie is a desktop; she stays at home and waits for everyone. Estel was the first laptop, he's been traveling the longest, but is still doing well. Frodo is the next laptop, he was young, and traveled the most, but is dying prematurely. Eowyn is the new laptop. She hasn't seen Estel much, but he's got a lot of information that she wants, so she's trying to find a way for them to be in the same place at the same time.

Anyway, thanks for the weather station information. It was very, very helpful. I think I'm either going to go for this LaCrosse, which is simple and has the basics and is way on sale, or this one, which isn't a top brand, but has wind speed and direction, which I think would be helpful. The only thing there is, I think it would be helpful in siting the house, but until I build the house, there isn't any "indoors" to put the indoor monitor, you know, in. So I might be better served by buying a cheaper one now, and getting the fancy schmancy one a couple of years down the road when we're in the house, and I'm wanting to work landscaping for microclimate, and that sort of thing.
