Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
I had the same experience with a domain being spoofed earlier this year, and my understanding (and the ISP's) was the same as what TB said. If it's any (really very small) consolation, they eventually moved on -- I found about about it when I started being seriously deluged with bounce messages to somerandomcharacterstring@domain.org. It kept going for a month or two, and then just dried up.
It sucks while it lasts, but they do seem to refresh their lists often enough to avoid getting blocked too much. Your ISP knows what's what, so you aren't likely to get screwed there. It may be worth a note to your actual customers, but honestly, the spam probably isn't even going to them; and the people getting the spam probably aren't looking at the domain name closely enough to associate it with you either.
Yeah, that's what I thought. It just annoys me, to be annoying people.
Well, I'm glad to hear it dries up eventually, though.
Those commercials are like the best thing I've ever seen.
(I kind of want to date the Windows guy. Just to ruffle up his hair.)
Good news: got the windows partition booting again. We'll see how long it runs before it gives la pantalla azul de la muerte.
I got ubuntu up and running on a second drive on my spare PC. It's a Dual Core Intel running at 3.0 Ghz, but I need to add more RAM to it to really play around.
Uh. How do I open and extract spanned zip archives? I've been Googling but not getting much joy.
I need a new laptop case for my 13" MacBook. Am thinking of getting a backpack (one specifically designed for a laptop). Any recommendations?
Not for a backpack (though I have a great shoulder bag from Target that I'd recommend for girls...I can't find it online, but they just restocked in the store, it's brown and has a turqoise interior and a great padded zippy pocket in the middle for a laptop...)
It's not a bag, but I do recommend the RadTech sleevey things--I had one for my old powerbook, and ordered one for my new macbook--it's nice for not taking up any extra room, but protecting from scratches and stuff.
I think 7-Zip can handle spanned zip.

From what I heard, 7-zip is pretty awesome about handling almost every kind of archive.
re: laptop backpacks, Lifehacker has a nice post with a number of links on the subject here, [link]
7-Zip for the win! Awesome. Thank you, Gud.
Hmph. I can't figure out why my new laptop Eowyn can't see Rosie, but Rosie can see Eowyn. Everything was working so smoothly with my setup that I am miffed that there is the slightest bit of trouble.
Also, it has occurred to me only now that if I am using Frodo's network card for Eowyn to get online, then I can't transfer files from Frodo to Eowyn. I have to transfer them from Frodo to Rosie and then from Rosie to Eowyn. Harumph.
