What you did to me was unbelievable, Connor. But then I got stuck in a hell dimension by my girlfriend one time for a hundred years, so three months under the ocean actually gave me perspective. Kind of a M.C. Escher perspective, but I did get time to think.

Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!

S to the A -- using they/them pronouns!

Could it be a browser setting?

Some feeds display images and others don't, so I don't think so. And I don't think it's a setting by the feed itself, since the images were displayed on LJ.

Robin, ita's pretty familiar with BB devices. You might want to email her.

All is well that ends in pizza.

Andi's titanium powerbook g4 has suffered what appears to be a catastrophic blunt force trauma.

Any suggestions of really cheap replacements (Mac only) welcomed.

And it's brand-new, too.

Sounds like a bad fan, could you contact tech support and have them listen to it on the phone. If it is that bad then I'm pretty sure your fan is defective.

Probably. But I'd have to go through IT here at the hospital and really, the annoyance of the sound is outweighed by my desire to avoid doing actual work.

Can anyone recommend a good program for connecting to multiple IM programs for a Mac? Something like Trillian.

Also, I just got my new MacBook. It's my first Mac since 1994. Any sorts of "Macs can do this neat thing that PCs can't" things that I should know?

Also also, what's the best way to transfer files (lots of music, a bunch of Word and Excel documents) from my old Dell to my new Mac?

It's funny, we've been asked that roughly three times in the last five weeks. The answer: Adium. Covers all chat protocols includding Jabber with the best UI out there.

RE: Macbook, Dashboard is awesome. Check out the widgets section of the apple website.

I can't recall--do you have an upod, Hil? If you do, I'd clear it out (assuming it's got at least 4g of space) and file transfer using your ipod as a mobile hard drive.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Hil, try Adium for the IM stuff.

For the file stuff, I just use an external hard drive.

Thanks, SA. I'll check out the widgets.

I do have an iPod, but one of the reasons I got a new computer is that my old one has a low-speed USB port and is really finicky about communicating with it.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

Adium, Hil. We loves it.

If you want something in your dock, drag the application icon into the dock.

I'd use an external hard drive or flash drive, but I'm betting there's an easier way. I think there's a switching page on mac.com

OK, looks like Adium it is.
