Hi, me again.
Everything is copied (I gained back almost 8 GB of disk space), but this thing is still thinking or something. Whenever I try to eject it, it says it's in use. Now what? How can it be in use????
Fuckity fuckity fuckity. Need to go to bed now. Need to unplug this stupid EHD so that cat doesn't knock it over during the night. Why won't it let me disconnect????????? NOTHING is running (except Safari, obviously, and Dashboard apps). Is it just reorganizing itself or something?
Do you need to eject it? Can you just turn the computer off, and then do the disconnecting?
Pretty sure it has to be ejected. With every other USB connected peripheral I own, I have to eject it - it isn't safe to disconnect it until it's icon is gone from the desktop.
I'd just yank it out and go to sleep, but it took HOURS to copy everything over and I don't want to screw up the stuff I saved, particularly since I already trashed it from my computer's hard drive...
How about restarting the computer, and then trying to eject it?

Right. What DX said.
Then defrag your hard drive overnight.
DCJ, how do I do that? I've done that before, I think, but not on this computer... Its an iBook g4, BTW
Ok, restarting worked. To my credit, I DID think of that, but I was afraid that would mess up the EHD just like disconnecting it without ejecting would... But since you both said I should, I did, and it ejected fine after restart. Now, how do I do that defrag thing??
Hmm, Apple says it doesn't really need it so much any more... [link]
..so they tend to go for 3rd party solutions, I guess.
