Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
I can see it too.
Random Tiger question.
So...the upgrade has gone well. Everything is playing nicely together.
But I'm having trouble figuring out how to change a few features.
One...the system makes me log in at startup with my admin password.
Two...Entourage waits for me to click send/receive, whereas Mail used to just go get the mail for me.
Three...the most troublesome...I keep getting a message asking if I want to stay connected to the internet. If I wanted to disconnect, I would!
I've checked system preferences and individual program preferences, including help searches on the topic and can't for the life of me find where to turn off/change these settings.
What should I do!?
Thanks, everyone. The client couldn't see the site, and I was trying to make sure the problem was indeed at their end.
Beej, have you updated the default install?
Also, have you created a user account other than admin?
Here's a yahoo tech link to autologin on osx: [link]
OK, so I have a DVD-burning TiVo. Burned a DVD of ANTM to watch on the plane, but DVDplayer that came with my Powerbook kept freezing. I remember this happening LAST time I tried to play a DVD with it too.
Oddly, playing the DVD using VLC worked fine, though something popped up about an error, when I hit OK, it went ahead and played.
Odds that (a) my TiVo is messed up, (b) the blank DVDs I bought are messed up or (c) my computer is messed up (I swear, I thought having 1.25 gigs of RAM would've fixed this!)
Beej, I don't know if this still works, but for Entourage
Tools>Schedules>Edit Send & Receive All. You can then change it to check as often as you'd like.
An 80 GB iPod takes forever to load.
Let me wipe away your tears with the 20 GBs I don't have.
This is a 50 GB increase for me. Looks like I'm squeezing about 2/3's of my music onto it along with a few videos.
The new iTunes gives more control over what videos get uploaded to an iPod, so I've now gone from less than one GB free to about 3 GB. So maybe I can postpone my 80 GB iPod purchase until the holidays (it could be my x-mas present to myself)....
