For the past week or so, all of the images I open are locked, so that I can't add text or anything like that. This didn't used to happen. I've checked all of the preferences, but can't figure out how to change it.
Could it maybe be that the files are read-only? That's what it sounds like.
Nope. I tried to open up images that I had previously used sucessfully to make icons, but that are now locked.
Sarah Silverman advertises a Sidekick 3.
It almost makes me want one. Or a puppy. Or Sarah Silverman.
Okay. This is what I want. I want to be able to open a set of tabs. Then from the first tab, I want to be able to right-click on a link and say "open, not in a new tab, but in this specific already-open tab." Is there a way to do that? I want to do that. Someone tell a developer I want that.
I'm currently using firefox, but I'm open to suggestions.
I'm not sure what you want, but I think all you need is an extension. Try Tab Mix Plus.

So hey, mild query. I had a power outage last night (1:30am!!) while my computer was on, and it went off like everything else. It's on a power strip though, so I don't expect it to have any problems. I turn it on this morning, and it makes its usual noise,
blip!
followed immediately by an additional
blop!,
and seems to start up OK. It goes through the standard setup, and even does its little word-bubble warnings "You turned off the virus software! Click here to spend money for it!!" The only trouble? No input.
I can't get the keyboard or the mouse to register any input, even the 3-finger salute. I turned off the tower and turned it on again (same noises, the normal
blip!
and the additional
blop!
) and still no input, but this second time I got a "we'd like to call up Microsoft and report this Win32 error" window. Which of course I couldn't click yes on, because, no input.
Panic or no panic? I had to head in to work, so I just turned it off again and will deal with it later, but -- I'm stumped. My only thoughts are to pull out the plugs for the keyboard and mouse and plug them back in again. After that, it gets to screwdrivers and recognizing something fried when I see it, about which some doubt. I believe I am still covered by a year's automatic warranty (I bought the thing last September), but, this sudden a failure seems like it might just be something that needs a good smack upside the head and then it'll be fine.
Do you have access to another mouse and/or keyboard? If it's still wonky when you start it up later, that's the first thing I'd try.
Where'd you buy the 'puter from?

Oh -- and the Win32 error is probably just because you didn't shut down properly (because you couldn't!).
Microcenter.
I do have spares lying around someplace. I'll try those when I get home.
At least it's a local place. As annoying as it is, if you can't get it to work tonight, definitely bring it in.
I'm having a weird issue with my iMac, just within the last three days, it suddenly freezes and I can't get it to reboot without having to actually unplug it. It won't reboot any other way. I just backed up everything dear to me on the LaCie, but I'm nervous about this happening during book editing. This happens whether I'm away from the computer and nothing is open, or if I'm doing random typing, surfing the net, whatev. It's happened about 5 times. I've checked the wires and got a new power strip in case that was the problem, but it just happened again, while I was in the shower. I came out and my computer was crashed.
Lamely, I don't really know how to run any sort of diagnostic to see what's wrong. Can someone point me in the right direction to read up on how I can check my little mac for problems/viruses?
