Happy happy joy joy....
Apple today held its annual shareholder meeting. While Apple kept to its policy of not discussing upcoming products, Apple's CEO Steve Jobs said that the upcoming products are "the best I’ve ever seen in my life". He also reportedly replied "we hear you" when one shareholder requested that the company make the "ultimate media center," including personal video recorder functionality.
The exact circumstances of the quote are unclear at this point, with conflicting reports from Macworld and Think Secret. Think Secret specifies that the shareholder was speaking in regards to Microsoft's Media Center.

A few people might acuse Jobs of hyberbole, but when he says, "the best I’ve ever seen in my life," I'm hoping he's talking about the new iOrb, that brings complete peace, joy and fulfillment to all who touch it....
Wasn't that the iJasmine? As I recall, didn't work out that well.

Rumors about the new Apple product are here.
Bah! Also, Feh!
I think the HD of my iBook is dying. Last night it started doing this thing where the drive would shut down, then start spinning up, then shut down, etc. Then the iBook would act like it was locked up (or else it was just waiting to get data from the HD).
So, do I pay $ to get it fixed? How much would, say, an independent repair shop charge? The optical drive died a few months ago, so I was considering getting that replaced. Now I'm not sure if it's worth paying to get both drives replaced... or will I save some $ because they'll only need to open it up once?
It's one of the last G3 iBooks. I'd really like to buy a new Intel PowerMac, but I don't think I can afford that before the F2F. I suppose I could buy a used laptop, or maybe a very cheap new Windows laptop. (On the right here [link] there's a Dell for $500. There's a separate special on that model - a $100 rebate and a free WiFi card....)
eta: At this point I'm just looking for something for email, web and DVD player. Plus, WiFi.
Frell. You're coming out to SF, tommyrot? Where I won't be because of crappy ginormous tax bills?

Uh-huh.
Where I won't be because of crappy ginormous tax bills?
Bummer. Stupid taxes.
Hmmm... iBook is currently working fine. I've decided that the problem's related to the cooling fan not working well - the iBook seems to have problems when it's been on for a long time (I don't let it sleep, as it never wakes up). So I guess I just have to shut the thing off when I'm not using it....
