I wish I could just go somewhere to get flensed but none of the whaling ships near me take Medicare.

Sometimes the Help menu or online support area of whatever app you're trying to use will let you know which port range the app defaults to.

When I try to test the TCP ports on the app, I get NAT Error.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

If this is the app I think it is, you need to enable port forwarding on the range of ports you're allowing it to use.

On my setup, it's done through the router settings, which means going to 192.168.1.1 in a browser window, and into the "Forwarding" tab under Advanced Settings. Put in the port numbers you want to enable, tick both the "TCP" and "UDP" boxes, enter your computer's IP address*, and then tick "enable" and hit the "apply" button.

*You can find this by going to "About This Mac" under the apple menu in the Finder, and then clicking the "More Info" button. When the System Profiler comes up, look under "Network".

I sympathize. I still haven't been able to solve the NAT errors Azureus gives me. Pisses me off that in this one area my Windows box seems smarter than my Mac. I don't have to do anything special with it. On the other hand, it might be because Windows tends to be more lax with security...

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

Firefox 1.5.0.2 is out.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Spidra, do you need help with that? I got Az working with my laptop and router. I have to go looking for my ip address every time I torrent and then set my port forwarding accordingly.

Thanks, le nubian. I can't mess with it for at least a week. I'm up way too late doing my taxes (and getting screwed again because I don't have the right records handy to prove the deductions I *could* take). I'll be out of town tomorrow through Wednesday and a bit busy until next Monday but I would love to take you up on your offer thereafter. I'd like to be able to torrent on my Mac instead of having to use the PC.

okay, I'll just check this thread when you are ready. I need to leave town again (but this time just for a day) so if you don't get a same day response, I'll be back the following day.
