Question: Will hiding in a cavern with stockpiled chocolate goods be any part of this plan?

I use ncftp from the command-line.

ncftp is a great program. I use it when I'm ftp'ing in an ssh shell.

Myth Update

Haven't done much with it in a while due to lack of time. However, now the MP3 playing portion is configured and I've defined a couple of playlists, the picture viewer is configured, and the video player is configured (for playing back videos that are not recorded, but copied onto the myth machine). The folders for all three are now configured as Samba shares so it will be easy to move files in and out.

After configuring everything I found a problem with the remote not working for watching non-recored videos. I think it was a incorrect file link for the remote configuration file, but I fixed it remotely so I won't know if it is fixed until I get a chance to try it out.

All the infrastructure is set to move it to the living room TV area, now just to find time when it isn't recording to do the move.

Then, configuring a remote frontend so the treadmill monitor (used to be a TV, but the monitor worked better) can be used to watch recorded TV.

I just peeked at my home computer to see if mencoder was done with a few tasks I set up. It looks like my wife must be downloading pictures from the camera right now. Didn't mean to spy.

HELP!

My Windows desktop running Media Player 10 can play blah.(X)SCVD.mpg files. My husband's Windows laptop running Media Player 10 cannot play the exact same files; there's no video and the audio is speeded up.

What should I install on my husband's laptop? His laptop has a CD/DVD burner, so it isn't that the laptop isn't DVD capable. Do I need a different player? Do I need a different CoDec for the player? (He already has XViD.)

Help help help. The Doctor you save may be mine.

Betsy, did you try VLC?

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

VLC, absolutely.

I didn't know VLC existed. I Googled like a mad thing for "XSCVD" in various permutations and found no players.

Yeas! Thank you.

Tivo lifetime subscription extended to 4/15:

We know that there have been retail advertisements which refer to product lifetime, and there have been requests here for a longer opportunity to purchase lifetime before it’s discontinued. As a result, we have decided to offer product lifetime as a subscription option through 4/15/06, even for those that have purchased since 3/15 (you do have to call to activate lifetime service though, and lifetime is not applicable for systems purchased via a bundle plan).

Spy mouse:

CP-1 is a transmitter mouse. A sensitive condenser microphone is built in it. CP-1 starts working as soon as you connect it to the USB port of your PC.

VLC is the bestest. I've given up on bothering with codecs: I just watch everything with VLC.
