You know what? If I'm dead, they can have at me. Who cares? I'm dead!
There might be reason to have access to email though...some financial statements come via that means and no other and if you have to reconcile an 'estate' there may be good reason.
Forums and LJ - I can't see any reason to have access to those after a person dies.
The situation with the email--and I agree with Yahoo--sounds like a very good reason to appoint an executor to sift your bookmarks in case you die. Someone who'd be privy to most of your nefarious online life, and understanding of most of it. Somebody who could winnow the necessary financial stuff from the websites and posting boards, etc.
StY has my passwords. If I get hit by a bus, he's to come and tell you guys, and the other sites I frequent where folks might want to know.
Porn buddy!
edit, erm, not to imply your son and porn or anything -- just that Coupling thing where a friend is designated to de-porn your belongings upon your death.

Given what happened over at the Bronze, you might want to mention that we're going to need some kind of proof. Ya know, a certificate of some sort, or maybe an ear.
Ears are not definitive enough. He could just have her locked up in a closet somewhere. Eyeball? Heart? Something with commitment.
I definitely am not thinking I"d want my parents to have access to my email or LJ or anything! OTOH, I feel like I really should keep a password somewhere--if for no other reason than that, should I die, my laptop shouldn't be forced to be a brick, ya know?
I guess if I were dead, I'd be fine with my sister getting into my stuff. (Should I die, please reference this post to Yahoo, eh? :)

You don't need a password to reformat the machine and start over. Which is what I'd like my successors to do with my hardware thanks. Okay, except for the TiVo. They can keep my TiVo season passes. In fact, I may just insist they do.
I'm with Yahoo! but I sympathize with the family too. I hope they can find some way not to erase the data and maybe appoint a trustee of some sort to parse it for publication.
And FTR, someone else has been writing all my posts. And my emails. And surfing the web from my computers. Poncy bugger.
Hey, ita? That little iPod car device thingie you linked to? What does it mean that it has "no FM modulation"? Does that mean it sounds like shit?
Thanks, all, by the way, for the Tivo remote info.
