Has anyone tried out Songbird yet?
From the comments, it appears to be in early beta, with lots of bugs and crashes. It seems like the only advantage it has over iTunes right now is that you'll be able to connect to different stores (not just Apple's). But it doesn't yet synch with iPods so you'll still need to use iTunes for that. As someone who buys very little music online, I don't see the appeal. But I could see using it in the future if the open source architecture brings forth other iTunes-killing advantages.
Mac Mini inside an Apple SE30. (Unfortunately, the page with the full details of how he did it is in Japanese.)
I've been meaning to do that when I have money.
I also had an idea for putting a color TV with remote control into one of my Mac Plus machines...
TiVo users! This application rocks: >[link]
I love that program. I used to do the conversion manually using a different process but I discovered DSD when I had to wipe my hard drive and I lost the tools I was using for the conversion. It's a whole lot easier and faster, too.
Eddie, you roq!!1
Jon, I found another program that converts .tivo files to a format for my palm that I like, but I will have to try the program you linked to when I get home.
Despite downloading various DVD codecs and following all the guidelines on the TiVo website, as well as searching and posting in the community forums, I'd been unable to view any of my TiVotoGo files. WMP would freeze up whenever I tried. With the DSD conversion app, I can watch them no problemo.
Or you could just get the TiVo with DVD burner. It rocks! :)
What's the current thinking on leaving film in checked luggage versus taking it in your carry-on?
Film goes in the carry-on. They use stronger x-rays on the checked luggage that can damage the film, but the carry-on x-rays are OK for it. (For certain things, I get paranoid and either put my film in a lead bag in my carry-on or have it hand-checked, but I've been informed that that's kind of crazy.)
Different countries have different strength X-rays, and even so, my 1600 was advised to be outside the US scans. I think the Jamaican machines put 800 and up at risk.
I take my film out of the cannisters and put it in a ziploc bag in my carryon, which I can whip out and give to the guards to handcheck. Most places I see say that under 800 is fine, but I make them hand check it anyway.
