The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

Has anyone received emails like this from Amazon?

I got a similar phishing e-mail a few weeks ago and tried to report it to Amazon. Their process was tedious, and in the end didn't work -- several attempts over the course of a day got me only "We're sorry, that feature isn't working just now, try again later" messages, so I gave up on them.

At least ebay and paypal make reporting easy. Dunno if making the report really does any good.

Ann, that's a ferret.

I've been spammed for paypal. Also about my non-existent account at Bank of America.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

I'm trying to figure out what model my old laptop (which lives in another time zone) is.

I know it's a Dell from 1999. Anybody have any ideas of sites where I could find a history of the Inspiron line or somesuch?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Has anyone here ever unlocked their phone? What are the risks?

Are you unlocking it yourself, or is your cell phone provider doing it? Cingular informed me this week that I can have my phone unlocked for free just by filling out a form with them. I'm not aware of any risks other than losing money in unlocking scams on the internet.

Really? Then I guess the risk is minimal, or at least documented.

I wish I'd had the phone unlocked in Kenya. Or even known it was locked -- I didn't even find out until I tried a purchased SIM.

I want mine unlocked on principle. I paid enough for this bitch.

Our wings are not tired

It's an unofficial release, but folks might be interested in Google Earth For OS X.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Also, NASA has something similar.

I want a Google Solar System. Just type the planet or moon's name, and you fly there.

Or Google Galaxy, while I'm at it.

There actually is a program like this, but I didn't like the interface much. Then the PC that I installed the demo on died.

I can't run Google Earth on my work computer; it keeps crashing. So sad.
