Woe to the fucking wicked.

Sue, my understanding is "not particularly"

hip deep in pie

Thanks Debet. I told her not to worry, but I think her last laptop was downed by a barrage of viruses, so she's worried.

New Unpatched Security Flaw in I.E. for windows (yawn). Switch to FireFox or Opera already. Use I.E. only for windows update and trusted sites that work only with I.E.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

The other happy-making bit about maintenance, for me, was that I don't have to defrag.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

It is my understanding (Alert: further bluetooth adventures attempt to continue) that to set up my PC as an access point for the internet (so I can get out onto the net via bluetooth from my PDA), I need to go into the properties of the LAN card and tell it to share. But I can't! My advanced tab doesn't have that option. The advanced tab for the 1394 net adapter does, but isn't that firewire?

What sort of things cause network sharing to be so unavailable? I don't want to run the connection wizard, because I'm sure that'll just break something else that works fine now.

Also, can I set my Mac up to be an access point instead?

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

The advanced tab for the 1394 net adapter does, but isn't that firewire?

Yes.

Sorry - can't help you with the rest.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I decided to try the wizard. And it told me an error occured during configuration, and nothing else. It did turn firewalling on, but still no sharing option, dammit.

Hey. New board.

Over the last 48 hours I have used my Treo to:

  • Make several phone calls
  • Store the contact information for the pizza place across the street, for easy pre-ordering speed
  • Add several tutoring sessions to my calendar
  • Send many text messages
  • Take a picture of the snow and christmas lights on the Columbia campus and send it to my parents
  • Read Pride and Prejudice
  • Listen to music - specifically, the Wicked and Avenue Q soundtracks
  • Record my weight and reps for an upper body workout in a spreadsheet

It did all of this so well that I am amazed. It is my new favorite device ever - sorry, old 30 GB iPod that I no longer have, you did not have the advantage of always being in my pocket no matter what.

I am sad that the next Treo will be Windows Mobile.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

I know quite a few people who don't take wikipedia seriously. I think it is fine for what it is: gives you quick information on a wide variety of topics. People really need to use google to get a bigger picture on any person or thing. Not sure why anyone would want to use wikipedia as the only source on anything.
