Hey. New board.

An ssh client with a warning "pssh is probably INSECURE!" is funny.

Thanks, Tom. Both of those seem interesting.

So far, I'm hating the built in Palm contact list. It's just not flexible enough (I want to be able to display emails on the main contact page for people whose phone number i don't have, for example, and can't see a way to do it.) Is there a replacement out there?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Mine displays that, Gris. I'm not sure how, but it always has. I think you can define the field as primary, or switch the first field to e-mail and put it there.

Hey. New board.

Huh. Hmm. Okay, I'll keep playing.

For $9.95 I can get something called Address XT that looks nice, so I'll give that a try too.

ETA: Annoyingly, the iSync conduit doesn't send some information I'd really like it to send (like AIM names), and I don't have Tiger so I can't use the better Missing Sync tools. Bah. (Just noticed that).

ETAA: Oh, Address XT also lets me sort First name, last name. That's a must feature for me.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I have Agendus on my Clie. It's not free, but I like it a lot.

That looks interesting, Jessica.

Way back when, with the first Clie, Intellisync synched my PDA with my desktop and with my Yahoo contacts. Is that, or an analog still possible, anyone know?

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Why would I be getting a timeout error when trying to visit salon.com from home? This has been going on for a couple of days now. My service is through RCN. Should I just call them to complain?

Jon B., open a command window (Start > Run > [type cmd]) and type the word ping in the black box that opens (sorry if I'm talking below your technical level). You should see something like this:

Reply from 206.80.4.40: bytes=32 time=83ms TTL=240

If not, please post what you see.

Edit: I'm assuming you're on a Windows machine here. If it's anything besides a Windows or Linux machine I can't help.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Jon, are you using any kind of ad blocker or proxy? I've found that they occasionally interfere with the various startup ads Salon uses.

type the word ping in the black box that opens

I assume you mean type "ping www.salon.com"

I tried that yesterday. I get "request timed out". Specifically:

Request timed out.
Request timed out.
