Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

What's wrong with a TV? That's the simplest thing to connect to a DVD player. Is there something you need from a monitor that you can't get in a TV? That will help us help you.

Lurching from one disaster to the next.

Don't recall what thread I read it in but I'm sure I read someone mentioning GreenZap as an alternative to PayPal. On the off chance this isn't old news; it appears GreenZap might be a scam. This dude certainly thinks so ... [link]

Compassionately intolerant

This is going to sound just about as pathetic as it really is.

I simply can't have a tv in my house. If I do, it will be on all the time and I'll hate myself. Nothing wrong with tvs or their contents...it's just me. I haven't had one for 8 years and I'm much happier.

I watch dvds on my computer like they are going out of style and it suits me...except that the screen is smaller than I like, I miss some of the dvd features because my Mac won't access them, and sometimes I'd like to have something playing while I use the computer.

Years ago, a friend whose brother was in the sound/video biz, gave her a dummy monitor which required a tuner for tv and had a separate vhs. That seemed perfect to me, but I don't know how to replicate the set up.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Beej,

get a tv. without cable, you probably can't watch anything anyway.

Sadly...that won't work.

Ah well, I was just hoping to find some research threads to pull.

Sometimes, having a specific desire can really narrow the options. Le sigh.

The generation that could change the world is still looking for its car keys.

I would make a serious bet that you would pay more for a setup like that than you would for a TV with a kickass sound system and a DVD changer, anyway.

Speaking of DVD changers, this [link] almost makes me uncomfortable in my pants. I might be able to fit my entire current DVD collection in there!

All is well that ends in pizza.

Any Somerville-ians need a cheap older mac?

Where the hell is Somerville?

Um.

Beej - there are HD sets that only come with digital tuners that may be suitable for your purposes. Though you'll pay substantially more for them than a non-HD set.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I have one of those. It's monochrome (green), however. I think it was originally intended for a Commodore 64, video games, etc.

eta: Some DVD players have composite output. Some computer monitors have composite input (I think).
