Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Oh and thanks to all for the graphics recommendations, Christmas cards now made.

What did you end up using?

ETA: if you ever try this? Have more RAM than I do. On a Pentium III/500 with 256mb Ram? Slooooooow.

Yeah, IMHO your system is not adequate for running emulation. I'd throw lots of RAM and Ghz at the beastie....

What did you end up using?

A combination of Gimp, and painter25. Painter is basically a slight improvement over the paint progam that comes with XP, and is sufficient for most of what I do. Gimp seems to handle the rest, though right now I don't find the interface super-intuitive. Once I download the manual, I suspect it will get a lot easier.

Yeah, well, I was doing it for the challenge.

Plus? I'm in no finanacial condition to make any of those dreams come true. Not that I would just for the emulation, anyway. My G3/300 Power Mac 7600 runs OSX faster.

Over here, it says you should expect CPU emulation to be 1/500th or 1/15th slower than the host.

Yep. And the several hours it has already taken to run Software update attests to that.

I was more commenting on the accomplishment, and lamenting the slowness.

hip deep in pie

Sue, have you upgraded to Firefox, or are you still in Navigator? (Re: crash issue).

Wolfram, it's at work that I have that issue, and we're not supposed to install new programs on our own. So, I just use IE for the sites I have to and Netscape for everything else.

I ahve no Gmail problems at home with Firefox.

Remember, remember/the fifth of November/the Gunpowder Treason and Plot/I see no reason/Why Gunpowder Treason/Should ever be forgot.

Thinking of getting a Tivo, and wandering how long one of those last. Any stories people want to share about how long they last?

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

N of 1 here...but I've had mine since early August 2003. Works well for me so far. *knock wood*

All is well that ends in pizza.

I saw a TV ad saying that you can go to tivo.com, buy a $200 Tivo, and get a $100 mail in rebate.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Tivos with rebates.

I've had mine about two years. It was iffy out of the box, and I had it replaced after about three weeks.
