Okay, here's my question: should I install Service Pack 2 on my Windows XP machine? I haven't yet.

Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
Definitely. Major security improvements in SP2 (not to say that they don't have a ways to go yet). Unless you're worried about compatability issues with some of your software. But those have pretty much all been discovered now (I think) so you should be able to find out if there'd be any potential problems.
I have been seriously worried about compatibility issues. But looks like I'll be updating the software then.
I have been seriously worried about compatibility issues.
The software vendor or Microsoft (if it's a popular program) should be able to tell you if there are any issues.
most of what I was worried about aren't popular programs. I guess I'll find out.
I don't understand why every time I restart my work computer, IE returns to an *old* list of visited sites under the address bar. And so I can't get rid of those misspelled sites that autocomplete so helpfully keeps bringing up.
bon, I think if you go under Tools - Internet Options, and on the General tab, clear out all cookies, temporary files, and completely clear out the history, it should solve that problem.
Of course, at that point, Explorer won't remember any previously visited sites, and you'll have to reenter all your passwords and stuff at any sites you visit, but autocomplete will have been returned to a blank slate, at least.
I clear out the history every time, doesn't work.
If it were my office, my guess would be your network profile isn't being properly updated, and you'd probably need an IT administrator to sort it out.

You're probably right. Le sigh.
I got mine. I'm waiting for everyone else to get theirs.
I've got mine. Scola and I have even chatted with ours.
Without a separate microphone (which we don't have), it's useless for video conferencing because you both just end up smiling at each other saying "What? I can't hear you..."
I've found the built in mic in my iSight to be quite good.
