Also, I have NEVER been able to get the Gimp to run on my PowerBook, despite having everything set as it should be.

What version of OS X does it have?
I spent many hours trying to get it to run on my iBook (back when it was on 10.2). Then I discovered that The Gimp requires at least 10.3.

How about Photoshop Elements that was recommended to Perkins? I'm guessing Graphics Converter won't cut it...
For retouching, iPhoto works great. For everything else (icons, etc), I use Elements.

Really, if I plan on using this machine for image stuff at all, I should have Paul use his discount at the University store.
